Mirror Mirror
I've
been very lax in updating this section. There's a few things today
that I feel are really important to share. People have great power and
responsibility to the other people in their lives. The current
situation in the world is very scary. Super Furry

"It's Not the End of the World" asks why we aren't further along as a
planet. Hasn't all the pain and suffering of our history taught us
anything by now. There really is enough on this planet for all of us
to have a life. Each morning my coffee is soured with a new
stories of suicide bombings and the retaliation for the bombing followed by
another and another.
It's easy for me to sit here
watching bad
FOX sitcoms and pretend to understand a life in the middle east, so I won't.
I don't understand. Well that was a dead-end, or not. I can't
really do anything
over there but I can try to make people smile and think
for a second. It is a technique used in business and sports,
visualization is buzz word I believe. See the situation and practice
the action before you try it. I work in customer service at times I find that being extra attentive and somewhat funny makes the customer much
easier to manage, and it disarms them. I figure that they have to
be pretty upset if their complaint or problem has trickled all the way down to
my small cube in Mountain View. They have already been bounced a few
times and I'm sure they are not ready for me being really nice and helpful.
Irate customers are more work for me and they don't write thank you notes.
Being helpful is easier than being another barrier.
This carries over to personal relationships and friends. Instead of saying no to an invitation because you are not really interested, Monster Truck Rally uh ...sure, say yes and go. Keep an open mind and have fun being part of an experience that your friend will appreciate. I have had more fun and met more people at events and parties that I would have skipped just a year ago. People reflect much of what is presented to them. Anger and violence create more of the same. Kindness and smiles...
If all the bad news was coming from other parts of the world it might be easy to look the other way. But everyday here in the US a terrible crime happens that seems unthinkable just a day before. A mother killed her daughter and left her in hotel, a cop killed his neighbors, and don't even get me going on the recent court cases involving clergy. Terrible hit and run accidents in SF and Oakland have also left me scratching my head. Take a minute or two to perform a random act of kindness. Everyone involved will feel better after. Tell them Leftcoastlove sent you.
This was way too good to let go. I leave NY and this is what happens? Actually I wanted to show that while times are perilous I can still find humor and fun in people being people.
