The Tiggler:

Pop-up ads suck! It's one of the things I hate about the internet, that and spam. When I see a pop-up ad I make a mental note to NOT buy that product or service. How dare they interrupt my surfing with pitches for dating services and min-cams. Last week that all changed. I saw an ad for the tiggler while downloading some Don Ho. Yes, Don Ho! The king of Hawaiian shwing-a-ling. But I digress, from out of the internet abyss came the small ad for a vibrating tongue ring. Hmmm? I had to know more and so I did the unthinkable. Please forgive me for I have clicked a pop-up ad thus proving to the merchants that pop-ups will yield some incremental revenue streams. This ad complemented a number of news stories about the new fad of tongue splitting. Ok, now I know each generation has to gross and or freak out the previous but can we please stop with the machinery. These things look like the shoe shine machines found in swanky hotels, except for the rubber and or metal rod spinning at the top. I think this product will backfire. Without getting too graphic just think of what happens when the fringe of a carpet meets the business end of a vacuum cleaner with spinning bristles. Ow, ow, ow! Of course there is a work around but now you have to clip the carpet edges as well as maintain the machinery. Too much work, I have to be a gardener and mechanic, what next?

Hot Hot Hot:

Last week I went to this club to peek into the hot hot hot world of Salsa dancing in San Francisco. I quickly threw together a page with my pictures from that night. I received a few emails asking for more information. Above I have provided the link to Cafe Cocomo's website. Now on to my review of the club and clientele. Tucked away in one of the city's industrial clusters is this gem. The sign outside proclaims "Live Music Every Night". The early hours (8-10 pm) are for dance lessons or practice. It is also a good time to catch up on any chatter since the music and crowd will swell until the place is so tight you can't raise your drink. There is plenty of Latin flavor and Spanish is the language of this land. This being said I found the crowd to be accepting of anyone willing to try. Plenty of white bread, myself included, Asians, African Americans, and a few Seniors, myself not included. No attitude or stress, just smiles and lots of twirling. The people who danced were very good, my friend Amalia and her man Hector are regulars and it showed. It was just as much fun watching as it was trying. Here there was no shame in trying.

All Aboard:

The new Train cd is out and the tour starts this weekend in SF. Thursday and Friday the boys will play the Warfield theater. I am watching them on Jay Leno as I type this. The new cd is wonderful and while critics may dismiss their music I suggest trying out tracks 3, 5, 6, and 11 then make up your own mind. I think there is a place simple pop rock in our world today. Go, get My Private Nation you won't be disappointed.

Anger Management:

A summer movie featuring a comic book hero and my favorite city! The back drop for this green rampaging hunk-a-hulk is San Francisco. Last year Ang Lee and his crew were shooting scenes on the city streets and now I can finally see how the monster fits into those scenes. I watched cars flip and roll and I even saw a helicopter hanging from a crane while the film crew was in town. If you can't come to SF this summer check out the HULK for some great views, oh yeah he breaks a lot of stuff too!

Rock Star Chic:

I attended a wine tasting recently at this SF landmark. This hotel, restaurant, and club is so freakin' cool. This old motel has been rehabbed and funked up. The courtyard features covered bed-couches and modern art. Maybe you should just check out the link above to see what I'm talking about.

Darkness on the Edge:

Nick Cave is well, umm, sort of like Neil Diamond crossed with Jim Morrison with a dash of peyote. I worked one of his recent show in SF. I had never heard his music but the buzz around town was loud. Two sold out shows full of fire and angst pleased his fans to no end. I was amazed by the energy of his performance. If you get the chance you really have to see him live to understand.

Better the Second Time Around:

God bless Nick at Night. Their recent re-runs of Three's Company are a staple of my daily routine. Four episodes a day so there is plenty of chances to catch up with Jack and friends. This show is actually better now than it was back in the day, or maybe I just understand the jokes now. Fresh and funny and not a hint of reality. This is especially comforting in these days of reality TV. If I want reality I'm not looking at TV.

In Your Face:

www.shespies.com

This is a syndicated action adventure musical comedy drama. Forget Charlie's Angels, She Spies is so much hotter and funnier. I watched this show for the first time over the weekend and now I'm hooked. These girls kick ass and look so yummy. The stories won't tax your brain, thanks, because I don't want to miss a jiggle. The website is way cool too. Watch and thank me later.

Meatsa-Hut:

All you can eat meat buffet. Only in Texas will you find such a place to eat. While in Dallas on business I was treated to the wonders of blood and bread. This place would make Homer Simpson weep, a small card is placed next to your plate to indicate your eating intentions. One side is green for keep the meat coming and one side is red for please hold on my colon is packed. We sat for hours as Gaucho waiters paraded huge pieces of meat, all kinds of meat, in front of us. Nod and a fresh slab is cut and placed on your plate. I don't know what tomorrow will bring but for tonight my tummy is full and happy. Vegans beware!
