I received an invitation from Wired Magazine to attend a
product test event in historic Chrissy Field. The Big-HA bike company
brought out a fleet of their recumbent bicycles for the guests to try.
The second item provided by Wired was a very nice free catered lunch.
I did brave the chance at humiliation and road tested one of the bikes.
While it was much more comfortable to ride sitting down, it was more
difficult to keep it going. No cheating by pushing the pedals with the
help of gravity on this bike. I made my ride without crash or shame.
The day was absolutely perfect. Sun and a mild bay breeze. Some of the staff from Wired was also there to support this event. I talked a while with a few of their marketing people. Oddly enough one of them was named Shawn. It was a great opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas about their magazine. I am a subscriber and they seemed interested in what I had to say.
These bicycles are not cheap. Starting at $3000 I
thought this might be my only chance to play on something that expensive and
get a free lunch to boot. Like all good marketing events I left with a
little Wired bag filled with free stuff. I really hope that this event
was a success, that way they will have more of them.
These types of events put a face on Wired. Now that I
have met some of the staff I appreciate the magazine more. They are
just regular people who love tech and technology, like me. Thanks
