Be
careful what you wish for, it will happen. The grass is always
greener. When I was out of work I wanted to work, after almost 10
years of no travel I longed to stretch out. Rub the lamp, and POOF!
I have a new job that has given more frequent flyer miles in one week than
my last 3 jobs combined. I call this week the time zone tour. We
may be on to something here. I actually think I lived more hours last
week too. How you ask? It's all in the math. By flying
back and forth across time zones you can stretch the length of a week.
Starting in the east and moving west during the week works best this way you
only add the hours. I flew from San Francisco to Atlanta then on to
Raleigh all last Sunday night. This put me on the east coast for
Monday. Then over the course of the week I worked my way west.
Raleigh to Dallas then finally back San Franny.
I'm not going to focus on the job too much, this is a fun website after all. If you wanna work, log onto your company's website, if you want fun stay with me. Anywho as a traveling consultant my week is away from home so the occasional distraction of high octane fun is often required. Avis doesn't always understand when I return a car with no tire tread so a different outlet was needed. Rub the lamp. POOF again!
My current
project team was treated to evening of racing this past Thursday.
Located outside of Dallas, this fun center is a total gas, literally.
They have a number of different tracks and types of racing to try.
Small bumper types carts all the way up to my favorite the top fuel
dragsters. Sports fans this is participatory racing so sign your
waiver and buckle up. For safety purposes the bigger the car the less
control you get over them. But it still totally rocks! There is
also a big game and billiards building complete with bar and restaurant.
I had a burger and killed some zombies, drank a Pepsi and then strapped on a
dragster.
The cars are real but they are bolted to a rail and run on propane. The final braking and initial staging are also controlled. Hey, this gives me more time to concentrate on the neck wrenching speed. These babies go fast and the whole experience is set up to recreate the experience of racing. My team took turns racing and cheering for each other. Gotta give my new boss props on this event. A different teammate sniffed this place out for us, but we needed him to sell this as team building event. Well it was!
You
get three races per turn. We set it up so we raced against each other
in heats while the rest cheered. The cars are staged then acceleration
and a single shift are turned over to you. Watch the Christmas tree
carefully because you can be fouled for jumping the light.
Your reaction time and run time time are combined and winners and order are
flashed up over lane on board everyone sees. Fouls are displayed too!
Even the waiting area is set up feel like a drag strip track.
Bleachers and control tower and yes the smell. Even though the car is
on a rail, everything thing else works. Tires squeal and engines roar.
I give the event 5 out of 5 stars.

who helps those who have the heart to listen and appreciate the beauty and
opportunity this world DOES provide. It's corny but it's not about
half full or half empty, it's about it's always full so don't be afraid to
drink.
