My last few days of freedom and I decided to enjoy my city. First off I decided I needed to utilize the public transit system. San Francisco has an eclectic collection of subways, cable car, and vintage street cars. I chose the F line which runs up and down Market Street. It is also the line with the coolest restored street cars. I grabbed a dark green car and headed down the art supply store. My current project is getting complicated so I needed some fresh ideas and a box of rubber gloves.
I paid my $1.25 and off I went. It was like stepping back in time. The metal wheels clank against the rails and the muffled voice of the driver announcing the streets let me imagine a different time. The art supply store I like best is located in a funky part of town. Taking the streetcar allowed me to really see the neighborhood and immediately I noticed all the signs. Some new some old but each has a story to tell.
Each sign contains a message or advertisement but time has taken it's toll. It's as if they scream to be heard but no one believes them anymore.
I am sure your neighborhood has some hidden treasures so go out and look around. Listen for the past, you may learn something you can use in the present, or future.
Peace,
Sean
