Looking back, army2.JPGI see that the first time I spoke with LCL was heavy with foreshadowing. I was at drill for my Army Reserve unit, doing paperwork, and bemoaning the lack of cool people in my vicinity. Suddenly, a voice sang out “You’ll never find… another love like mine!” I looked up, and there was Sgt. LCL laughing down at me. How freaking prophetic is that? Even then, the seed of LCL was present, and trying to make itself known to those it recognized as kindred spirits! It only needed the California sunshine to bring it to bloom.

Like the expatriate American in 1920’s Paris, amer.gif LCL had to leave his nest to find freedom. The Right Coast could never handle such a juggernaut of love & wisdom. As average Americans in the 20’s looked askance at Paris and all it entailed, so do average Right Coasters in the 00’s look at California. Too many berets. Too much love. Unless you’re in Greenwich Village, appearing in public wearing a black turtleneck and sunglasses can only lead to mockery and derision. What else could LCL do but seek out his own kind? “Go west, LCL, go west!” said the voices in his head, “Emulate the ways of your socially pioneering progenitors.”

"The party was an interesting blend of old and new money and youth. The people were very friendly and experienced in the subtle art of conversation that on the surface seemed to be educated and concerned but really doesn't take a stand or make a point." -LCL

A description of a Paris coffee shop in 1927? Non, mon amis, that is San Francisco, 2002. If LCL could not sip espresso with earnest students on the bank of the Seine, at least he could enjoy a reasonable facsimile.

So I put it to you, gentle readers, that we are highly privileged to watch LCL start his journey into fame. Jung would be proud at how the philosophy of the Lost Generation has resurfaced in the ever-percolating mind of LCL. Some examples:

Existentialism… the idea that nothing matters, and what if it did? I bet LCL can’t even spell existentialist, but by gum he sure can talk the talk. Take a look:

“The broken monkeys are broken because they want to be. If I spend my time comparing my life and experiences to other people I will always be broken. The best friend you can have is yourself, if you are happy you attract more happiness. Let the other monkeys figure their own way, for me my banana tree is right here in California.” -LCL

“Not only is man what he conceives himself to be, but he is also only what he wills himself to be after this thrust toward existence.” – Sartre

When LCL writes, it is not only for his friends and family. He writes to spread the word to the masses, most of whom he will never meet.

“I am writing for myself and strangers. This is the only way I can do it.” – Stein

"My brain never stops. I drop my thoughts and observations here for your amusement. I hope you enjoy my particular take on life and love on the left coast, if not; too bad get your own website." - LCL

LCL and Snowy have harnessed the media to spread The Word in ways not open to Anais Nin and Henry James. (Imagine what Nin and James could have done with cable TV!) “Women may have tricked us into thinking we are on top while we fight each other for their brief affections. Such a waste, and as long as they control the crotch strings and purse strings we will continue to suffer.” -LCL Written by James in a fit of angst? No my friends, that is LCL from his “Cock Blocked!” essay.

What Nin did for women in the early 20th century, so will LCL do for men in the 21st. Trying to convince the common person that love is not only free, it is FUN, is a daunting task, but with perseverance “See a brother, help a brother” -LCL will be more than just a good tag line – it will be reality.gucci3567.jpg

I hope I have managed to convince you that LCL is more than just some hot dude in Gucci sunglasses. He represents all that we could be if we would only let the stifling mantle of the status quo fall from our shoulders and let the sun warm our souls.
