or Tommy Must Die!

My circle of friends continue to grow and from time to time I get the opportunity to do a cross over. I take two of my friends who don't know each other and throw them together for an evening of food and laughter. This past week such an evening occurred. The names have not been changed so hang on.

The Diners

Alexis (a.k.a. Alexctasy future Rock Star and Superhero) is a recent graduate of FIT and currently works retail in downtown San Francisco. We met at the Nikka Costa show a few months back and since we both appreciate music and shopping we have become friends. You may recall my mention of Alexis at the California Music Awards, she worked the event with me as part of her future Rock Star training. Her hobbies include sleeping and selling her clothes (that's a whole other story).

Andy is sales professional living and working in San Francisco. Originally from NY his hobbies include music, photography, and clubbing. I met Andy last year while traveling back to NY. Andy is also the guy behind ny-sf.com and he also turned me on to the whole ushering scene out here. Andy and I will be working the Allman Brother's upcoming 3 night stand at the Warfield. Andy is good friend and I value his opinions on music and athletic footwear.

The Dinner

Emmy's Spaghetti Shack - Andy and I love this place! The food is always great and the people who work there make this a restaurant we go back to over and over. The servers are bright and funny, they actually become part of the dinner. There was a booth available immediately so we settled in quickly and looked over the one menu on the table. The menu is hand written/drawn/painted then pressed between two sheets of glass and framed. The table shares and passes the menu around, causing the table interact and continue talking while looking over the selections. The menu is somewhat limited but it is one one of the few restaurants where everything on the menu is unique but palatable for most. We ordered almost everything, starting with the anchovy pizza with hot chili reduction sauce (it was the dinner special) as an appetizer along with a Romaine salad and Salmon and Garlic Bread to get us started. The table was soon covered with food and we began to share some ushering stories. We had all ushered but never together so it was funny to hear their common experiences while working with me. In fact they joined forces to mug me up a bit. I have a sarcastic wit and sometimes I bust on Andy or Alexis so I have to be ready to accept some good natured ribbing in return. Yes? I was hardly prepared for what came next.

For some reason the talk turned to my some what annoying habit of leaving extra happy messages on their cell phones. Then to my salutation of "...helloooo.." Andy and Alexis had found common ground and all of sudden I was privy to previously withheld information. Sometimes we bite our tongues because we don't want to hurt someone's feelings or we aren't sure our perception is correct. The later I suspect for both, because Andy made a comment about my penchant for things Tommy Hilfiger. Alexis was quick to jump in and together it was decided that Tommy must die. All this time I was torturing my friends with excessive exposure to the Hilfiger crest and flag, I never knew. I am so sorry. I will still like and wear Tommy, but now armed with this information I can better support my friends and start the healing process. I don't know why Tommy affects some people this way but it is a simple enough request when spending time with newly formed A&A tag team.

Hours later after entrees were passed and shared by all we settled back for dessert. We ordered all of them and once again covered the table with flavors this time all sweet and intense. The sugar rush fueled more talk of shopping and a Leftcoatlove makeover. On the way back to Andy's the cold San Francisco night air smacked us in the face and I watched as Alexis and Andy chattered away without my participation. The evening was perfect and now my friends were also friends. I couldn't have had a better day.
