Two
years of stories, pictures and hopefully a little insight into the things we
all have in common. I am currently on an airplane flying to San Diego
for a job interview and this seemed like a good time to catch my breath and
wrap up a few loose ends before we head into year three. First up
congratulations go out to Jerhanner as she is now a blushing bride.
Current circumstances prevented my attendance but my heart is very happy for
her. She has taught me a lot over the years and some of her lessons
have even made their way to my little corner of the web. The crew in
Cali send their best wishes.
New life new love and the beginning of a
shared journey await Jerhanner. On the other side of the coin, Warren
Zevon has passed. Initially I was exposed to his music by my
step-brothers. His gritty and dark vocals wrapped around songs that
were stories and lessons, his music spoke to me. I saw Warren in
concert a few years back. In fact I almost ran him over in front of
the Fillmore. He was walking to his own gig, guitar on his back and an
old Army jacket to finish the disheveled homeless guy look. I didn't
even realize it until Warren came out on stage and Jimmy the Jag asked if
that was the guy I almost ran over earlier in the day.
Friday night David Lindley played to a sold out crowd at the Fillmore.
He spoke of Warren, who was still with us at that time, and performed a
crazy version of Werewolves of London. In the crowd and in my section
were Bonnie Rait and Jackson Browne. Jackson and Warren go way back as
do Bonnie so it seemed fitting that all were in attendance as David Lindley
(guitarist at one time for all of them) reminded all of us how a great song
can be performed an appreciated in many different forms. Warren often
changed and re-arranged his own material over the years. I first saw
Warren live 10 years ago in Albany.
He was on a small label doing
basically a two man tour, but he still played and performed with all his
heart. Isn't that all anyone can do? Whatever you do, do it with all
your heart. There are points awarded for style and grace in this life.
We often forget that we get the life we ask for. Maybe not the ending
Warren wished for himself but his life was full and artistic and fun and
tragic, and it ended with his legacy completed and surrounded by friends.
I am sad but also oddly jealous. He had his house in order and was
able to say his his farewells, you can't really ask for more.
OK, I'm checked into my hotel now. I have a two
bedroom two bath suite. It seems like overkill since I am only here
over night. VH1 is on and I am watching Warren record his final album.
My interview is in about two hours so I have a little more time to ramble on
here. I hate interviewing but that's how I get networked and find new
work in my field. I swear it would be easier if people would just pay
me to be myself but until then I toil away in the small world of ERP
training and documentation. If you don't know what ERP is then you are
lucky. Basically ERP refers to the super duper large software programs
that drive big organizations. SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft are all
examples of ERP packages.
I meet with the client and work with them to produce documentation and
training materials. For the hardcore you are free to peruse my online
portfolio
http://www.2koolwebs.com/portfolio.htm. So let me get back on task
here now that I have set the stage. It seems that each time I am
looking for work I also spend lot's of time reflecting and trying to
understand my life and what it means. I make mistakes but it also
seems that I have blessed with the opportunity to learn and try again.
Even the cops tailgate...
Golden Gate Park
Finally we close with some pictures from Michael Franti's
recent show in Golden Gate Park. I first saw Michael and his band
Spearhead at last year's Reggae on the River. He writes and performs
songs that have a heart and conscious. His new CD is my pick for
record of the year. Michael is a bay area favorite and with good
reason. He sees the world as a big family with problems but also with
lot's of love. I am so lucky to live in a place where ideas are
appreciated and music is valued. Everything in San Francisco has a
beat or pulse. You can feel it in the people and in the streets.
Thanks for coming along for the ride and stay tuned for year
three. You all rock!
