Howie Day is tireless. He continues
to tour and it seems like he has no plans to stop...good for us! Howie
has also released an EP of 3 live tracks and 1 new studio track that is only
available at a few select record stores across the US. As good fortune
would have it one of those shops is Mod Lang in Berkeley. This shop is
located on University Avenue which is right on the way to the Greek Theater
which was the location of Howie's most recent Bay Area appearance. Yes
I had the opportunity to see Howie again for the forth time.
Howie was actually performing his sound check when I arrived to usher.
This appearance would be a solo affair. Just Howie and his guitar.
It was magic. Howie uses his guitar and a computer to create
multilayered arrangements for the music and vocals. By recording
simple snippets and looping them he is able to create a full band sound all
by himself. The effect is amazing because in order to do this he has to
know every part of the song and synchronize each layer live.
The other nice thing about Howie is his lack of ego.
I've seen Howie headline and I've seen Howie open for other people, he
doesn't care he just
wants to play. Tonight Howie was the second opener. The sun was
still out and the crowd was small but Howie performed as if. Yeah
that's right.. as if it was a sold out show... as if it was Hollywood
Bowl... as if this was the only show that mattered... totally as if.
Radio Alice has just added Howie to the Now
and Zen line up. The Leftcoastlove team has already secured tickets
and we will provide a full update later this month.
Peace,
Sean
