BD21298_.gif Thank you FOX News. In recent days I've watched reports regarding the upcoming war. After reporting (what would turn out to be a false news report) a story regarding a biological attack the news crew set out to capture the feeling in the streets. Is it just me or do they seek out the most ignorant people to interview? Please tell me that these folks are not really representative of our citizens. I watched a man duct tape his home, which was on blocks off a dirt road, as he talked about protecting his family by sealing them in a giant shopping bag. Hmm. Apparently he has been surviving without oxygen this long so a few weeks in a dry cleaning bag won't matter.

Blkffffjj98_.gif 250_wmd.jpgI also watched as a mother, who couldn't afford shoes for her children, was fitting her 4 kids for gas masks. $180 each for the whole clan. I'm thinking maybe shoes and some milk might better serve her brood.

BD21298_.gif Finally the news ended with a story on how the rental and sales of porno has increased 35% since January. After watching the fair and balanced pre-packaged hypo grandized oh my god we're all gonna die news I thought perhaps porno might be healthier after all, at least most porno's have a happy ending . Current events can't promise much of that.

sac 032_small.jpg BD21298_.gif This poses more of a threat to me than any terrorist. Yes it's a truckload of live chickens going 75 mph! He's passing me. I must dodge semi's and livestock each morning on my way to work in Sacramento.

Sidebar: If we have to go to war can't we attack Michael Jackson instead? You've all seen the videos and interview by now so I won't waste your time. More interesting stuff is here. This is really creepy stuff. Who let's their kids talk to anyone on the phone like this?

BD21298_.gif Speaking of threats to our relatives.... C2 joined the family last summer. You may remember her from the Crafting pages or Now and Zen 2002. Anywho besides working two jobs and going to college she is also in US Army Reserves. Her unit was activated and she is currently getting ready to ship overseas. I have received one email letting me know she is okay but very busy. I'll keep you posted. We are all hoping for the best and the safe return of our friend. This part of the war is not funny.

BD21298_.gif I guess my point is that threat is relative. For most of us the same things that posed a threat in our lives is still the same, and more heinous. Most often we are the biggest threat to our own survival. I smoke and drive fast. There I said it. Over the years the driving fast is limited since I don't think indulging my bent should come at the expense of any other (except maybe the insurance company). My smoking is so limited in this age of political freshness that basically my car and patio are the only toxic zones allowed in my life and they don't harm anyone. So let me have those.
Breaking News: NBC is reporting that one of three things will happen in the coming weeks.
  • The US will go to war with UN support.
  • The US will go to war without UN support.
  • The US will not go to war.

This was from an actual report I watched this morning. It seems to me this has been the basic condition here since 9/11.

BD21298_.gif Real people, real friends, real family members going far away to an uncertain situation. Can't we all just get along?

BD21298_.gif Andy is trying to talk to me into going to a peace rally in San Francisco tomorrow. I am torn since I do believe we really need peace but not the head in the sand, it will go away on it's own, etc. brand of peaceniking. These gatherings tend to be more for the hippie element than me. But I shouldn't be a snob when it comes to ideas that are meaningful. I constantly write about sharing and accepting others so I will probably go with Andy and look for the best of the event instead of dreading the dreads.

BD21298_.gif I think the best thing we can do to prepare is just be nice to the people around you. Everyone is going to be touched somehow by this war. Jobs, family, and travel will change again so everyone is already stressing. Give up that one car length to let somebody in, hold a door, say something positive. Skip the duct tape and gas masks and spend that time with your loved ones. Maybe then we will have some real peace.
